22 Oct 10 Reasons Why Road Trips Do Not Suck
As a kid, I dreaded road trips — mind you the only road trips we did were those from LA to Vegas. That’s how much I hated them. I just couldn’t stand not being able to stretch my legs out in the car for what seemed like 8 hours (more like 2 because we’d always make a stop somewhere in Barstow. Smh). The whole road-trips-suck mentality has stuck with me for the majority of my life until recently. A few weeks ago, my boyfriend and I planned out a trip from Vegas to Colorado. I wasn’t really looking forward to the 10-12 hour drive, but as soon as we were out on the road — something changed.
10 Reasons Why Road Trips Do Not Suck:
1. You get instant gratification
Unlike airports, once you are on the road, your trip has begun! You don’t need to rush to check-in your luggage or worry about missing your flight.
2. It’s calming
There’s something about being on the road that calms me. I think it’s the fact that I’m often reminded of how small I am in this world. You don’t need to worry about sitting next to the arm rest hogger or cute but non-stop crying babies we’ve all encountered on the plane.
3. Forces you out of your comfort zone
One of the nights, we couldn’t find a hotel that met our budget so we parked at a rest stop and stayed the night there. You are going to have to get out of your comfort zone every once in a while, whether it be talking to a complete stranger or being completely naked in a nude hot spring. Well, you know what they say, “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”.
4. Helps you to accept what is
Can’t always get what you want, especially when it’s against mother nature. She wins, sorry. So when things don’t go as planned, road trips do nothing but make you accept the situation you’re in.
5. The scenery
Yes, you can get amazing aerial views from the window seat of a plane, but what you will see up close and personal during road trips are the best. You get to see the world for what it really is — details and all. The great thing about it is, you can stop to take pictures whenever!
6. No need to rush
You are in complete control of your destination. You don’t need to check-in by a certain time and have the extra time to enjoy your lunch before going back.
7. Helps you save money
This is true most of the time. We all know that gas is really expensive and can hurt your wallet quickly. But with the proper planning and budgeting, you can definitely save a lot more. If you are pooling with friends, this brings the costs down for each of you.
8. No carry-on limitations
Yes little Bailey and Max can come too because there aren’t any pet fees for your furry loved ones on a road trip (some hotels do)! I am a girl (if you didn’t already know), and being one comes with a bag of non travel-size liquids we carry on during our trips. So yeah, road trips are awesome!
9. Finding the unexpected
Yelp, RoadTrippers App, TripAdvisor all provide amazing recommendations, but the best thing about road trips is finding the unexpected. It’s kind of like showing up to a surprise party on your birthday — just when you thought it couldn’t have gotten any better!
10. It brings people together
Nothing more intimate than a 10-hour car ride with your best friends or loved ones. You get to really have those deep conversations you’d normally shy away from on the plane. It brings people together and brings relationships closer.
