5 Instagram Hot Spots in the Dominican Republic

5 Instagram Hot Spots in the Dominican Republic

As a photographer, the one thing I love doing is capturing the beauty this world has to offer. So naturally, when I travel, I tend to look up places to photograph. When I first heard about the Dominican Republic, I always envision its famous beaches of Punta Cana and its nightlife. I never knew anything else about the country, which is a shame because there is so much more to see!

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the DR with the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism. They showed us around pockets of the North Coast, Samana, Las Terrenas, Sosua, and Cabarete — places I’ve never even heard of — but deserve to be under the radar especially for those photography lovers.

To clarify, this was my first trip to the DR and so I’ve never been to Punta Cana nor anywhere else in the country aside from those mentioned above. These are places I’ve visited within a span of 6 days, but immediately fell in love with.

So without further ado, here are 5 Instagram hot spots in the Dominican Republic:

 1. Sublime Samana

The Sublime Samana Hotel is a luxury beach resort tucked away in the province of Samana. It’s surrounded by tropical palm trees with lush jungle hills. I loved the walkways filled with beautiful cabanas and extensive pools that reflected the scenery. Another thing I loved were the tranquil beaches right out front. This place is so breathtaking, you’re going to want to photograph everything!

 2. El Limon Waterfall

I mean, who doesn’t love waterfalls? What makes this a true photo hot spot is the trail leading to the waterfalls. I recommend trekking the rugged jungle terrain on a horse —crossing aquamarine rivers and taking in the scenic views. You will be guided by a local, which I think is an awesome way to connect and immerse yourself in the Dominican Culture — or perhaps practice your Español (definitely wish I knew more Spanish). Overall, this is not only a hot spot, but an unforgettable experience.

3. Sosua Beach

Situated in the province of Puerto Plata, Sosua Beach is one of the many beautiful beaches of the DR. It offers plenty of attractions including snorkeling, scuba diving, and water skiing. You will also see a strip of first class hotels and beach resorts shoreside. Sosua Beach is a true definition of paradise, a crescent shaped bay with calm crystal blue waters. We rode a catamaran out into the sea and snorkeled schools of fish and beautiful coral formations.

4. Kite Beach

Cabarete is known as the windsurf capitol of the Caribbean for a reason. At Cabarete’s Kite Beach, you will see nothing but windsurfing, kiteboarding, and overall adventure-filled waters sports. I personally would love to try these activities one day, but for now, photographing them will do. I’ve never seen so many kites in one place — it kind of reminds me of a tropical version of a hot air balloon race!

5. Sea Horse Ranch Cabarete

Where do I even begin with this place? Sea Horse Ranch in Cabarete is not only a luxury oceanfront villa resort, but it also boasts a Beach Club with spectacular panoramic ocean views, seaside pools with cascading waterfalls, a first-class Equestrian Center, a certified USDA Organic Farm, and a Tennis Court that offers private lessons and training academies. I especially loved taking photos in our backyard, where we were greeted with phenomenal sunrises every morning and parted with remarkable sunsets every night.
The Dominican Republic was an absolute dream vacation, especially for those photo lovers. I can’t wait to come back and visit this beautiful country again!

If you’ve ever been to the DR, please let me know where your favorite places to photograph. I’d love to hear anything that wasn’t mentioned above!

Thanks for reading! 🙂

Love & light,

I love the walkways and the cabanas at the Sabana hotel! I think my favorite spot for an Instagram photo would be Kite Beach. It’d be fun just for people watching to.
