30 Apr First-timer’s Ultimate Guide to Oahu Part 1: The Best Beaches
Aloha! If you plan on going to Hawaii for the first time, get the full Hawaiian experience with this must-do Oahu list. I’ve only been to two islands, but I must say Oahu is my favorite by far. I love that you get the best of both worlds in Oahu –the city in Waikiki and the country side on the North Shore. If you really want to, the island is small enough for you to traverse in one day by car (maybe two at a slower pace) and it is jam packed with activities and gorgeous views left and right! So if you were contemplating on going to Hawaii, I say go –people always come back so relaxed and tanned (oo la la). Plus Hawaii seems to be in summer mode all year round. This is part 1 out of 3 of the First-Timer’s Ultimate Guide to Oahu. Part 1 is about the best beaches.
1. Kailua Beach
This beach is rated as one of the best beaches in the world. It also happens to be my personal favorite. You’re surrounded by lush tropical plants and you can watch people kitesurfing.
2. Lanikai Beach
Just on the windward side of Oahu, next to Kailua beach. Kayak to Mokulua Islands!
3. Hanauma Bay
People usually come here to snorkel. If you bring your own snorkel gear, come before it opens and it’s free!
4. Waikiki Beach
This beach is tourist central and is probably the most congested beach on the island. It’s still beautiful regardless. The waters are calm enough for you to paddleboard and take surfing lessons here.
5. Ala Moana Beach
If you want something less packed, Ala Moana Beach is another option. Walk out to magic island and watch the sunset.
North Shore Beaches
If you’re looking to cliff dive, this is the place to be (just do it).
2. Laniakea Beach
If you’re lucky, you’ll see cute little sea turtles! I wasn’t so lucky. 🙁
People also snorkel and scuba dive here.
This beach is usually never packed. It’s like having your own private beach.
